James D. Gorman

April 5, 1943 – Jan. 11, 2008

James D. Gorman, 64, of Carthage, died January 11 in New Braunfels, Tx.

He was born April 5, 1943, in Scioto County, Ohio, a son of Thomas M. and the late Tempa Elizabeth Gorman.

A lifelong Carthage resident, Mr. Gorman was a 1962 Carthage High School graduate. He served in the United States Air Force from 1963-1969. He married Sondra K. Todd on April 7, 1994. Mr. Gorman was a retired truck driver and transportation escort. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping and traveling. Mr. Gorman was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage, Rush Lodge #580 F&AM and was a past master there. His other memberships included Knightstown American Legion Post 152, Knightstown York Rite, Commandery Drill Team and the Blue River Cruisers Car Club.

Survivors include his wife, Sondra K. Gorman of Carthage; his father, Thomas M. Gorman of Carthage; two sons, James D. (wife, Gina) Gorman II of Carthage and J.D. (wife, Wendy) West of San Antonio, Tex.; four daughters, Melinda (husband, David) Guffey of Indianapolis, Angela (husband, Freeman) Poore of Rushville, Tina (husband, Michael) Nix of Tampa, Fla., and Theresa (husband, Terry) Howard of Shirley; two brothers, Thomas M. (wife, Betty) Gorman, Jr., of Adah, Penn., and Michael J. (wife, Marsha) Gorman of Carthage; three sisters, Brenda (husband, Bill) Merrell of Rushville, Ramona (husband, Sam) Cooper of Spring Hill, Fla., and Deanna (husband, Steve) Morgan of Milroy; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Brink Howard and Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Military rites will be conducted graveside. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, at the funeral home.
