Helen L. Caldwell

Sept. 5, 1916 – Dec. 3, 2006

Helen L. Caldwell, 90, of Westport, and formerly a resident of Carthage and Raysville, died Sunday, Dec. 3, at Decatur County Hospital in Greensburg. She was in Carthage on Sept. 5, 1916, the daughter of the late Clarence “Peck” and Lura Mae (Swain) Mattix.

Helen was a member of the Raysville Friends Meeting and the Friends Missionary Circle. She had also attended the Ogden United Methodist Church and the Shirley Friends Meeting. She enjoyed quilting, latch hook rugs, embroidering, and ceramics.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Gasper of Westport; a sister, Ruth E. Newhouse of Richmond; a son-in-law, Rusty Roberts of Knightstown; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Charlotte Ann Roberts; a grandson, Robert Allen Roberts; a great-granddaughter, Savannah Roberts; and a son-in-law, Bill Gasper.

Visitation will take place this evening (Wednesday, Dec. 6) from 4-8 p.m. at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Funeral services will be on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ogden United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
