Arthur Turner

Mar. 26, 1919 – Dec. 1, 2006

Arthur Turner, 87, of Spiceland, died unexpectedly Friday, December 1. He was born Mar. 26, 1919, in Genesis, Tenn., the son of the late William Jackson and Mary (Sletvett) Turner.

Arthur was a member of the 1940 class of New Castle High School and was presented the Most Valuable Athlete award in 1940 for his outstanding athletic ability in football and basketball. He also won a scholarship for football to the University of Tennessee.

Mr. Turner was a retired self-employed businessman and had attended the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Conway) Turner; four sons: Stephen (wife, Dana) Turner, Jack (wife, Sheila) Turner, Thomas (wife, Roseanne) Turner, and Philip Turner; grandchildren: Dawn (husband, Andrew) Crawford, Dan (wife, Heather) Turner, Todd (wife, Melissa) Turner, Tiffany (husband, Kent) Brumbaugh, Dwight (wife, Rose) Turner, Cliff (wife, Caroline) Turner Corbell; great-grandchildren: Megan, Michael and Katy Crawford, Trevor, Peyton, Alec, Hailey, and Ansley Turner, Hope and Evan Brumbaugh, Cherish and Chelsae Turner, and Emma (Turner) Corbell. He is also survived by two sisters, Anna Taylor and Ethel Springer, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant sons, a sister, Bertha Roe, and five brothers including Wallace, Walter, Roy, Jim and Oliver Turner.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Main & Davis Funeral Home in New Castle. Funeral services are today (Wednesday, Dec. 6) at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gene Bennett officiating.
