William P. Whiteman

Jan. 27, 1915 – Nov. 21, 2006

William P. Whiteman, 91, of Greenfield, died November 21 at Avon Health and Rehab.

He was born Jan. 27, 1915 in Anderson, a son of the late William Robert and Mary Alma (Carmichael) Whiteman.

Mr. Whiteman served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary, where he became an ordained minister. Later, he and his wife, Margaret, moved to Greenfield where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Whiteman retired from the post office in 1978. He was an active member of and served as an elder at Wilkinson Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling and was active in the Rock Hounds Club.

Survivors include two sons, David (wife, Marla) Whiteman of Kansas City, Mo., and Jonathan (wife, Nancy) Whiteman of Daleville; six grandchildren, Rachel Whiteman, Chad (wife, Anita) Whiteman, Brad (wife, Sarah) Whiteman, Andrew Whiteman, Temple (husband, Brad) Parish and Gretchen Smith; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Scott; and several friends and acquaintances.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Whiteman, in February 2005; a brother, Bob Whiteman; and two sisters, Lois and Mary Ester.

Funeral service were November 25 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Ron Baker officiating. Burial took place in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Military graveside rites were performed by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilkinson Church of Christ, P.O. Box 35, Wilkinson, IN 46186.
