Forrest Byard Wiley

Dec. 3, 1913 – Nov. 21, 2006

Forrest Byard Wiley, 92, of Spiceland, died November 21 at his home.

He was born Dec. 3, 1913, in Forest Hill, a son of the late George and Martha (Young) Wiley.

Mr. Wiley was a school teacher at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown and also worked as self-employed carpenter and farmer. He graduated from Burney High School in 1931 and DePauw University in 1935. He also studied at Earlham, Butler and Ball State universities. Mr. Wiley married Lela Francis Crise on Sept. 14, 1941. Mr. Wiley was a member of Spiceland Methodist Church, the Indiana Archeological Society, the Indiana Teachers Association and the Spiceland American Legion.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Ann (husband, William) Wheeler and Helen Louise (husband, Richard) Parker; a son, Harold Douglas (wife, Rita) Wiley; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brothers.

Funeral services were November 25 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Jeff Landon officiating. Burial took place in Union Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation was November 24 at the funeral home.
