Nellie E. Tanner

June 4, 1921 – Nov. 3, 2006

Nellie E. Tanner, 85, of Pendleton, a former Charlottesville resident, died November 3 at Rawlins House Nursing Home in Pendleton.

She was born June 4, 1921, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Henry R. and Crystal Pauline (Schmitt) Crossley.

Mrs. Tanner was a homemaker, a mother and a grandmother. She was a 15-year breast cancer survivors.

Survivors include a daughter, Darla L. (Jim) Hoffman of Greenfield; a stepson, Phillip L. (wife, Nancy) Tanner of Fortville; a stepdaughter, Gloria L. (husband, Fred) Biesecker of Knightstown; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, LeRoy F. Tanner; a sister, Jessie (Crossley) Gibbs; and a brother, Henry “Pepper” Crossley, Jr.

Funeral services were November 7 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Chaplain Mike Woods of Rawlins House Nursing Home officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was November 6 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Andis Breast Center, Women Helping Women, c/o Hancock Regional Hospital, 801 N. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140.
