David A. Phelps

David A. Phelps, 46, died October 20.
He was born May 11, 1960, a son of David and Priscilla Phelps.
Mr. Phelps was a 1978 Knightstown High School graduate. He went on to earn a bachelors degree in marketing from Ball State University in 1982. He was a founding member of Ball State’s Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and he was associated with the school’s Campus House Ministry. He also sang with the New Chapter Group and served as president of the Black Student Union. Mr. Phelps traveled to England with Campus House Ministry in 1981. After graduating from Ball State, he worked at Beldon Wire & Cable in Richmond. He later moved to Kansas City, Kan., where he worked for the Xerox Corporation, Ortho McNeil Pharmaceuticals and Standard Register. Mr. Phelps was a member of Legacy Christian Church in Overland Park, Kan. He and his family later moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where he was most recently employed as a director for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; four children, Jade, Jordan, Jared and Jamison, all of St. Augustine, Fla.; his parents, David and Priscilla Phelps, Sr., of Knightstown; four sisters, Kimberly Phelps of Indianapolis, Teresa (husband, John) Boyd of Gaithersburg, Md., Sherry (husband, Brian) Boudoin of Carmel and Kelly (husband, Michael) Barksdale of Fishers; one niece; six nephews; and several other family members.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, at First Christian Church in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Friday, October 27, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, or the Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
