Mary Ruth Smith

Dec. 1, 1923 – Aug. 25, 2006

Mary Ruth Smith, 82, of Knightstown, died Friday, Aug. 25, at Heritage House Nursing Home in New Castle.

She was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Greencastle, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Winnefred (Knarr) Arnold.

A longtime Knightstown resident, Mrs. Smith is retired from Western Electric. She had also worked as a manager of RCA video discs. She was married to Ray H. Smith, Sr., and he preceded her in death in 1995. She was a member of Knighstown Business and Professional Women and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include three sons, Leonard (wife, Rita) Crump of Oklahoma, Steven A. Smith of Brazil and Ray H. Smith, Jr., of Knightstown; a daughter, Marcella Crump of Oklahoma; three brothers, Sam Arnold of Florida, Wilbur Arnold of Cullman, Ala., and John Arnold of Loogootee; and four sisters, Eula Burke of Mooresville, Alice Young of Indianapolis, Evelyn Everett of Greenwood and Sarah Arnold of Indianapolis.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral services were August 29 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson. Visitation was August 28 at the funeral home.
