Frank E. Hickman

Feb. 22, 1920 – Aug. 5, 2006

Frank E. “Gene” Hickman, 86, of Lewisville, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

He was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Lewisville, a son of the late Frank and Dovie (Wilson) Hickman.

Mr. Hickman graduated from Lewisville High School in1938. He then attended Canterbury College. Mr. Hickman served with the U.S. Army during World War II in South Africa and Italy. He worked in construction and also in supervision for the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Henry County Highway Department. He was a member of Lewisville Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and he was a 53-year member of Lewisville Masonic Lodge #72 F & AM. Mr. Hickman was a member of Lewisville Eastern Star #463, where he held the office of Worthy Patron several times. He was also a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and New Castle Elks Lodge #484. On Nov. 10, 1946, he married Betty Pfaff and she survives.

Survivors include his wife; Betty Hickman; one son, Tony (wife, Mary Ann) Hickman of Lewisville; one daughter, Jean Ann (husband, Steve) Walls of New Castle; five grandchildren, Lori, Alex, Brittany, Brian (wife, Cathy) and Natalie (husband, Charlie); two great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Logan; and one brother, John M. “Bud” (wife, Barbara) Hickman of New Palestine.

 He was preceded in death by an infant brother; a sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Max Fennel; and one sister-in-law, Pat Hickman.

Funeral services were August 9 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Rev. Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial, with military rites provided by American Legion Post 152, followed at Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation was August 8 at the funeral home. Masonic services conducted by Lodge #72 F & Am were also held.
