Kenneth R. Criswell

Aug. 14, 1944 – July 22, 2006

Kenneth R. Criswell, 61, of New Castle, died July 22 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Aug. 14, 1944, in Cooper, Ky., a son of the late Nim and Martha (Marcum) Criswell.

Mr. Criswell was a 22-year employee at Van Meters Wood Products in Westwood. He worked at Cril Casket Company in New Castle for 13 years. Most recently he had been a self-employed carpenter in the New Castle area. A former member of the South Side Church of the Nazarene in New Castle, Mr. Criswell enjoyed music. He played the guitar, banjo, fiddle and harmonica. He also enjoyed hunting and visiting family and friends.

Survivors include his companion, Becky West of New Castle; his former wife, Betty Riley of New Castle; a son, Kenny Wayne (wife, Stephanie) Criswell of New Castle; two daughters, Penny (husband, Lanny) Fultz of New Castle and Karen (husband, George) Lawson of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Danniel (companion, Bobbi Hicks) Fultz, Ashley Fultz, Matthew Fultz and Brandon Criswell, all of New Castle, Dustin Lawson, Shea Lawson and Mariah Lawson, all of Muncie; two sisters, Doris (husband, Hershel) Watson of Hagerstown and Carolyn Faye (husband, Rod) Gray of Fountain, Colo; two brothers, Thomas Criswell of Monticello, Ky., and Ray (wife, Yolanda) Criswell of Waynesburg, Ky.; two aunts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Ray Criswell, in 1987; a daughter, Becky Ann Criswell, in 1999; a grandson, Sonny Criswell, in 2003; and a granddaughter, Becky Ann Criswell, in 1998.

Funeral services were July 26 at Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle with Pastor Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial followed in South Mound Cemetery, Westlawn Addition, in New Castle.
