Chesley V. Port

January 9, 1926 – July 15, 2006

Chesley V. “Chet” Port, 80, of Hagerstown, died July 15 at Reid Hospital in Richmond.

He was born in Henry County on Jan. 9, 1926, a son of the late Tracy and Hettie (Morris) Port.

Mr. Port was lived in the Knightstown area until moving to Hagerstown 50 years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Perfect Circle/Dana Corp. in Hagerstown. Mr. Port was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152, Hagerstown Lodge #49, F&AM, and he was past-president of Hartley Hills Country Club. He was also a member of the Perfect Circle 25 Year Club.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a son, Sam (wife, Jane) Port of Cambridge City; three grandchildren, Lorri Davis and Todd (wife, Carrie) Port, both of Richmond and Gretchen (husband, Wade) Weston of Cambridge City; six great-grandchildren; and a step-brother, William (wife, Maxine) Johnson of Middletown, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Scott Johnson; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was July 18 at Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown. Burial will take place at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Private funeral services will be conducted at the family’s convenience. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads of American Council, Boy Scouts of America, 199 S. Plum St., Hagerstown, IN 47346, or to the Nettle Creek Senior Center.
