Eugene Cole
Nov. 24, 1930 – July 8, 2006
Eugene Cole, 75, of New Castle, died Saturday, July 8, at Heritage House Convalescent Center in New Castle.
He was born Nov. 24, 1930, in New Castle, a son of the late Charles and Myrtle (Thurman) Cole Walker.
Mr. Cole worked for many years at the Van Matre Wood Mill in Westwood. He was a member of New Castle Apostolic Pentacostal Church for over 45 years. Mr. Cole enjoyed working in his yard and building things. He also enjoyed reading the Bible and praying. He had served as a minister since age 22.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ninetta “Josie” (Gorman) Cole of New Castle; two daughters, Naomi (husband, Richard) Smith and Deborah (husband, James) Logston, both of New Castle; one son, David (girlfriend, Barbara Byers) Cole of New Castle; two grandsons, Darren Green of Pennsylvania and Daniel Pierce of New Castle; four step-grandchildren, Jessica Adamson and Jonathon Smith, both of Bowling Green, Ky., Seth Logston and Josh Logston, both of New Castle; three great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elma Hayes, Juanita Yarborough and Lorena Harper, all of New Castle; a special sister-in-law, Clara Presnell-Davis of New Castle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Guffey; two sisters, Mary June Burton and Christine May Guffey; a granddaughter, Michele Cole; and a step-granddaughter, Summer Smith.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 11, at Marcum Community Funeral Home in New Castle with Rev. Kenney Brown officiating. Burial followed in South Mound Cemetery, Westlawn Addition, in New Castle. Visitation was prior to services at the funeral home.
