Elmer Warren Jessup

Sept. 8, 1922 – July 6, 2006

Elmer Warren “Ted” Jessup, 82, of Anderson, a former Shirley resident, died Thursday, July 6, at St. John’s Medical Center in Anderson. He was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Shirley, a son of the late Warren and Lucy (Lodge) Jessup.

Mr. Jessup retired from the Anderson Police Department after 20 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Anderson VFW, American Legion and Shirley Masonic Lodge #531. Mr. Jessup was known as a loving father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Norma Jessup of Anderson; three daughters, Nancy Burke of Anderson, Margaret Guilkey of Anderson and Linda (husband, William) Willert of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, J. Jessup of Anderson; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Bishop; three brothers, Omer, Chester and Walter Jessup; and three sisters, Crystal Hartley, Cora McDaniel and Margaret Akers.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 11, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was Monday, July 10, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60604.
