Cordell R. Conley
Jan. 2, 1931 – June 24, 2006
Cordell R. Conley, 75, of Lewisville, died June 24 at Indiana Heart Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Bud, Ky., a son of the late Bental and Stella (Roberts) Conley.
Mr. Conley lived most of his life in Lewisville. He graduated from Lewisville High School in 1949. Mr. Conley was a United States Air Force veteran who served as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. He served from Jan. 8, 1951, to Jan. 7, 1955 and was part of the 50th Troop Carrier Squadron. He received the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Rosemary Jackson on Nov. 7, 1964, and she survives. Mr. Conley worked at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home from 1955 to 1969. He also worked at Conley Well Drilling and he retired from Roberts Pipeline Construction in 1990. Mr. Conley was a member of the International Operators Union #841 in Indianapolis. He was a lifetime member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152. He was also an avid gardener who loved to spend time with his family and friends boating on Lake Cumberland.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Rosemary (Jackson) Conley; a daughter, Sherri (husband, Jim) Jackson of New Castle; a grandson, Caleb Jackson of New Castle; a son, Brian (wife, Mary Kay) Conley of Greenfield; a brother, Mendon (wife, Judi) Conley of New Castle; three sisters, Barbara (husband, Orlan) Golay of Lewisville, Betty (husband, Donald) Stevens of Spiceland and Faye Johnson of Ossian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oliver and Lynn Conley; a sister, Pauline Hickman; and a nephew, Stephen Conley.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Rev. Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites, took place in Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation was June 27 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
