Orville C. Upchurch
Feb. 15, 1920 – May 15, 2006
Orville C. Upchurch, 86, of Lewisville, died Monday, May 15, at the Waters Nursing Home in New Castle.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Armathwaite, Tenn., a son of the late Merch and Arra (Dishman) Upchurch.
Mr. Upchurch was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Formerly of New Castle, he lived in Lewisville for the last 29 years. Mr. Upchuch retired from Chrysler in New Castle where he worked from 1947-1981. He was a member of UAW Local 371. He enjoyed listening to his police scanner, having rummage sales and tending his garden.
Survivors include six children, Jim Upchurch of Muncie, Darlene (husband, Larry) Thompson, Connie (husband, Ed) Privett, Jeff (wife, Rebecca) Upchurch, and Lois (husband, Jeff) Herbert, all of New Castle and Orville Jay (wife, Angelia) Upchurch of Cambridge City; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Corene Cargile of New Castle and Atha Bridgeman of Rushville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Len Upchurch in December 2004; a grandson, John Upchurch in 1992; a brother, Gleason Upchurch; one sister, Vena Denney; and an infant brother, Oneal.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Rev. Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, May 16, and prior to funeral services at the funeral home.
