Helen L. Dickey
July 8, 1918 – April 28, 2006
Helen L. Dickey, 87, of Knightstown, died Friday, April 28, at her home.
She was born July 8, 1918, in Dunreith, a daughter of the late Ralph and Leona Lord. She had lived in Knightstown since 1929.
Mrs. Dickey was a 1936 graduate of Knightstown High School. She also graduated from Indiana Business College and worked at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home, the Chevrolet division of General Motors and Sieco Windows. Mrs. Dickey was a member of Knightstown Christian Church, where she married Dr. John S. Dickey on April 18, 1954. She worked with John in his optometry practice until their retirement in 1979. Mrs. Dickey enjoy her membership in Tri Kappa sorority and she cherished the friendships she made in her long-standing bridge club.
Survivors include her husband; two children, John S. (wife, Chris) Dickey of Hagerstown, Md., and Jane D. (husband, John) Pidgeon of New Castle; four grandchildren, Anna (husband, Nicholas) Brown of Chicago, Ill., Ellen J. Wright of Chicago, Ill., Sara Dickey of New York, N.Y., and Matthew (wife, Emily Spencer) Dickey of Ellicott City, Md.; a great granddaughter, Mabel Rose Brown; a sister, Rosemary (husband, Richard) Faulkner of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three nephews, Jim, Tom and Eric Faulkner.
A memorial service was be held at Knightstown Christian Church at noon on Tuesday, May 2, with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until time of service on May 2. Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Helen Dickey Scholarship Fund, a scholarship established for Knightstown High School students through the Henry County Community Foundation, 700 S. Memorial Dr., New Castle, IN 47362. Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown is handling arrangements.
