Albert R. Terhune

Nov. 29, 1911 – April 20, 2006

Albert R. Terhune, 94, of Lapel, a former longtime Carthage resident, died Thursday, April 20, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.

He was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Jennings County, a son of the late James and Martha (Hand) Terhune.

Mr. Terhune was a Rush County farmer for 62 years. He retired in 1994 and moved to Lapel. He was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage for over 80 years. There, he served in various capacities, including treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Terhune also served on the Carthage Public Library Board and was a member of the Carthage Lions Club. He also chaired the Carthage Fall Festival committee.

Survivors include four children, James L. (wife, Fran) Terhune of Snellville, Ga., Jeannine S. Terhune of Lapel, John A. (wife, Zoe) Terhune of Noblesville and Joseph (wife, Nancy) Terhune of Greenfield; six grandchildren, Elisabeth Jane “Betsy” Terhune Kelberlau of New Por Richey, Fla., Susan Frances Terhune of Snellvilla, Ga., Charles Wesley Terhune of Lilburn, Ga., Christopher James Terhune of Orange, Va., and Kathleen Ann and Melissa Jo Terhune, both of Greenfield; four great-grandchildren, Natalie Alexandra Terhune, Gillian Grace Terhune, Isabella Mary Frances Terhune and Gabriel Christopher Samuel Terhune; and one niece, Carolyn Ann McCrum of Columbia City.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Frances (Coffman) Terhune in 2000; a grandson, Scott David Terhune; two brothers, Malcom and Leslie; and three sisters, Erma, Helen and Mary.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24, at Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel or Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage.
