Gerald D. Hughes

May 29, 1942 – April 17, 2006

Gerald D. Hughes, 63, of Knightstown, died Monday, April 17, at his home.

He was born May 29, 1942, in New Castle, a son of the late Fred and Opal (Allee) Hughes.

Mr. Hughes was a 1960 graduate of Knightstown High School and an avid fisherman and bowler. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-63 and was stationed in Germany. On June 5, 1965, he married his wife, Ira. Mr. Hughes was a carpet layer and cabinet maker and also worked in the sporting goods department at Wal-Mart in New Castle.

Survivors include his mother; his wife, Ira Hughes of Knightstown; a son, Greg (wife, Mitzi) Hughes; a daughter, Lisa (husband, Jeff) Pullen of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Noah and Adam Hughes of Greenfield and Brandie and Casie Pullen of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Judie (husband, Raymond) Wells of Greenfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Hughes.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Rev. Marvin Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
