John R. Hamm

May 19, 1923 – March 26, 2006

John R. Hamm, 82, of Shirley, died Sunday, March 26, at Henry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1923, in Morehead, Ky., a son of the late Samuel and Lizzie (Thompson) Hamm.

Mr. Hamm, a loving husband, father and grandfather, was employed at Nicholson File in Anderson for 25 years. He later retired from the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Hamm served during World War II. He was a member of Kennard Baptist Church and he loved gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hamm of Shirley, whom he married on April 6, 1957; two daughters, Theresa (husband, David) Frank of Fishers and Alisa (husband, Joseph) Littleton of Morehead, Ky.; five grandchildren, Chuck, Katie and Emily Littleton of Morehead, Ky., and Benjamin and Adam Frank of Fishers; a brother, Henry (wife, Fern) Hamm of Morehead, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Hazel, Arthur, Frank and Bill Hamm; and a sister, Ethel “Doll” Hamm.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at Kennard Baptist Church with Pastors Randle Morris and Dillard Cole officiating. Visitation is 4 p.m. until time of service. Visitation will also be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Northcutt and Son Funeral Home in Morehead, Ky. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at Northcutt and Son Funeral Home with burial following at Hogg Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel.
