Jessie Pitts

July 28, 1921 – March 27, 2006

Jessie Pitts, 84, of Knightstown, died Monday, March 27, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

She was born July 28, 1921, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Ray and Louise (Personnett) Fadely.

Mrs. Pitts was a homemaker most of her life. She lived in Knightstown for 51 years. As a young lady, she worked at Perfect Circle in Hagerstown and New Castle. There she met her husband, Earnest, to whom she was married for 45 years. Mrs. Pitts also worked in several Henry County restaurants over the years. She taught cake decorating classes at Knightstown High School and decorated cakes for many people in the Knightstown area. A member of Knightstown Wesleyan Church, she owned and operated Granny’s Ice Cream Parlor in Knightstown from 1984-1993.

Survivors include six children, Kathie Rummel of Knightstown, Marcia (husband, Mike) Woods of Cartersville, Ga., Carl (fiance, Rhonda Sumrell) Pitts of Mooresville, N.C., Norma Kay (husband, Ron) Neubert of New Castle, Bill (wife, Judy) Pitts of Augusta, Ga., and Hubert Pitts of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Bernadine Baldwin and Pauline Gard, both of New Castle; a brother, John Fadely of Newberry, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest, on June 15, 1990; and a brother, Fred Fadely.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Rev. Gail Whitmire officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the funeral home.
