John W. Aikman

May 11, 1934 – March 12, 2006

John W. Aikman, 71, of Greenfield, died Sunday, March 12, in Indianapolis.

He was born May 11, 1934, in Indianapolis.

Mr. Aikman was a United States Army veterans who served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and continued serving as an Army Reservist until 1962. He was a member of the Cumberland Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite and he served as a colonel on the staff of the Governor of Kentucky in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He joined the Indiana State Police in 1964 and retired as a major in 1986.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly S. Dean; three sons, David A. Kurz of Greenwood, Jon R. Kurz of Mayumi, Kailua, Hawaii, and Roger Kurz; six grandchildren, Ashley, Brittney and Cameron Dean, Sasha and Alysha Kurz, and Nicholas Kurz; and an aunt, Virginia Aikman.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at Erlewein Mortuaries in Greenfield. A procession past Mr. Aikman’s house will immediately follow the services. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, at the funeral home.
