Delores Jean Ratliff

May 3, 1929 – March 2, 2006

Delores Jean Ratliff, 76, of Shirley, died Thursday, March 2, at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson.

She was born May 3, 1929, in New Castle, a daughter of the late William H. and Myrtie (Lunsford) Mitchener.

Mrs. Ratliff attended New Castle High School and graduated from Cincinnati Goodwill School of Watchmaking. She was a certified master watchmaker and gemologist. She was manager of Earlham College Bookstore in Richmond for 10 years and owned Knightstown (Ratliff) Jewelers for many years. Mrs. Ratliff was a member of Knightstown Friends Church and often attended Shirley Friends Meeting. She was also a member of Shirley Eastern Star #531, Shirley senior citizens group, the Indiana Watchmakers Association and BPW of Knightstown.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra (husband, Jack) Rowe of Chesterfield; a grandson, Jerry Rowe of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Elsie (husband, Keith) Hinshaw of Galena, Ohio, and Doris Ann (husband, Kenneth) Gardner of Lexington, S.C.; several aunts, nieces and nephews; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Chriswell of Wilkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Henderson of Shirley and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lewman of Knightstown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Ratliff, and a brother, Raymond Mitchener.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Chris Sitler and Jim Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #531 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
