Helen Maxine Morris
Sept. 11, 1926 – Feb. 9 2006
Helen Maxine (Sipes) Morris, 79, of Knightstown, died Thursday, Feb. 9, at her home.
She was born Sept. 11, 1926, a daughter of the late Dennis and Della (Shoemaker) Sipes.
Mrs. Morris was a self-employed beautician until 1972 and worked at Knightstown Elementary School from 1980 to 1992. She worked at Hats Off in Knightstown. Most recently she was employed at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. She was a 1945 Knightstown High School graduate and a member of Shirley Friends Church and the Shirley Friends Missionary Society. Mrs. Morris loved reading, sewing, rummage sales and cooking. She spent hours helping her husband, Joe, in his ministry duties, which included schooling, studying, calling and attending various church activities. When Joe, who was blind, was presented with his diploma, the school also awarded one to Helen because she read all the books to Joe and spent a lot of time helping him study. Mrs. Morris loved spending time with her granddaughters.
Survivors include a son, Gary (wife, Debi) Morris of New Castle; three granddaughters, Katie of Philadelphia and Cori Beth and Kelley, both of New Castle; a sister, Maude Dilley of Indianapolis; two brothers, Dale (wife, Helen) Sipes of Greenfield and Richard (wife, Hattie) Sipes of Anderson; several sisters-in-law, Pat Sipes of Knightstown, Dizzy Sipes of Anderson, Charlotte Sipes of Mitchell, Betty Baugh of New Castle, Maxine Thompson of Waverly, Ohio, Cara West of New Castle, Patty Bell of Ohio and Hazel Posey of Knightstown; and a brother-in-law, Robert Morris of Maple Valley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Rev. Joseph Morris; brothers, Delmar, Chester, Kenneth, Ed, John, Fay, Leroy “Speck”, Chauncey “Ray”, Art, Glessner and Ora; and two sisters, Laura and Fern.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 13, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Revs. Jim Jackson and Jonathan W. Morgan officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 12, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Shirley Friends Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
