Wilfred R. Roland

Dec. 12, 1927 – Feb.2, 2006

Wilfred R. Roland, 78, of Knightstown, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

He was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Knightstown, a son of the late Roy and Emma (McGee) Roland.

A lifelong Knightstown resident, Mr. Roland retired from Allison’s General Motors plant in Indianapolis. He was also a television repairman who worked at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for 16 years. He was an active member of Cross Road Church of God in New Castle. Mr. Roland was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Army in Japan. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed golf and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Manda (Mix) Roland, whom he married July 26, 1946; five children, Cheryl (husband, John) Cassidy of Forsyth, Miss., Cindy (husband, Paul) Loveall of Knightstown, Mary (wife, Mary) Roland of Greenfield; Teresa Roland Manning of Knightstown and Jeff Roland of Greenfield; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry (wife, Winnie) Roland of Knightstown, Laddy (wife, Mary) Roland of Spencer and Mitchell (wife, Sheryl) Roland of Knightstown; three sisters, Barbara (husband, James) Walls of Knightstown, Sue (husband, Junior) Dudley of Florida and Judy (husband, George) Atkins of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Edward Roland; two brothers, Lawrence “Whitey” Roland and Jack Roland; and a grandson, Robert Scott Mills.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Revs. Ron Mills and Danny Douglas officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Knightstown American Legion Post 152 provided military graveside rites. Visitation was 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Heart Association or the Henry County Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
