Leola Jordan

July 30, 1927 – Feb. 2, 006

Leola Jordan, 78, longtime Knightstown resident, died Thursday, Feb. 2.

She was born July 30, 1927, in Rushville, the daughter of the late Russell and Luva (Hackelman) Stevens.

Mrs. Jordan was a 1945 Rushville High School graduate. She married the late Chester B. “Chet” Jordan on April 30, 1960 at the family farm outside Knightstown. She and Chet owned and operated Knightstown Cleaners and Robin Lee Dress Shop for several years. She retired from the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation in 2003. She had worked in the Knightstown High School cafeteria for 28 years. Mrs. Jordan was also a greeter at the Meijer store in Anderson for the last seven years. She was a longtime member of Greensboro Nazarene Church and was active in Psi Iota Xi sorority. She was also an avid racing fan.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Ashley (husband, Wes) Smoot of Knightstown; a son, Tom (wife, Michelle) Jordan of Louisville, Ky.; two stepchildren, Bob Jordan of Rushville and Mary Lou McCorkle of Sebring, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Makaley and Kinsley Smoot; and several step grandchiildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Chet, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a grandson.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Revs. Gene Bennett and Bob Stevens officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Hospice or Henry County Shriners with envelopes available at the funeral home.
