Lawrence V. Carr

March 25, 1909 – Fb. 2, 2006

Lawrence V. Carr, 96, of Spiceland, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Hickory Creek nursing facility in New Castle.

He was born March 25, 1909, in Cumberland, a son of the late George and Lillian (Boungue) Carr.

Mr. Carr was a lifetime resident of Spiceland. He worked in various positions at Draper, Inc., and retired from there in 1974 after 49 years of service. He was a member of Spiceland Friends Meeting and a charter member of Spiceland Lions Club. Mr. Carr enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lena Mae (Garris) Carr, whom he married Feb. 11, 1939; two nephews, Bart (wife, Nancy) Benjamin of Cleveland, Ohio, and Fran (wife, Wendey) Benjamin of Sherman, Oregon; special friends Walter (wife, Mary) Clay, David (wife, Paulette) Jones and Max (wife, Betty) Moffitt; and many neighbors and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clinton, Omer, Wilbur and Everett Carr; and a sister, Thelma Benjamin.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Jeff Hinshaw officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was 12-2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, or until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Spiceland Friends Meeting with envelopes available at the funeral home.
