James F. Bowman

Aug. 19, 1920 – Feb.2, 2006

James F. Bowman, 85, of Hancock County, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born Aug. 19, 1920, the son of the late Daniel and Mae (Martindale) Bowman.

Mr. Bowman was a 1939 graduate of Wilkinson High School. He was a World War II veterans, having served in the U.S. Army’s 8th Air Force, 7th Photo Group, 22nd Squadron, European Theater. Mr. Bowman was also an avid fisherman and hunter, who enjoyed reading and gardening. He was a member of Eden Masonic Lodge #477.

Survivors include his wife, Miriam (White) Bowman of Hancock County; two sons, Daniel James (wife, Kathy) Bowman of Greenfield and Thomas Robert Bowman of Nineveh; four grandchildren; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert F. Bowman in 2005; a grandson, Paul Bowman in 1996; and his stepmother, Jeanette Bowman in 1969.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Knightstown American Legion Post 152 conducted military graveside rites at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to WFYI Channel 20, 1401 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
