Jack L. Christian

Dec. 10, 1944 – Jan. 23, 2006

Jack L. Christian, 61, of Shirley, died Monday, Jan. 23, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Dec. 10, 1944, in New Castle, the son of the late Cortey Wesley and Bonnie (Saul Christian) Kuhn.

Mr. Christian worked at Ameriana Bank as a loan officer. He also worked at the Bank of Henry County and, indeed, had been involved in banking his entire life. He was a 1963 graduate of Wilkinson High School, where he served as class president. He later attended Taylor University and Ball State University.

Mr. Christian served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a past president of the Shirley Lions Club and a member of Shirley Masonic Lodge #531. He was a past member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and attended Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church. Mr. Christian loved farming and was an avid gardener and sports fan.

Survivors include his wife, Vicky (Wybiral) Christian of Shirley; four sons, Wade (wife, Mitzi) Christian of Franklin, Tony Atkins of Greenfield, Terry Atkins of Greenfield, and Toby Atkins of Carmel; two daughters, Carlynn (husband, Franz) Christian of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jessica Atkins of Shirley; three grandchildren, Cassidy Ozbun, Alec Atkins and Mara Feierbach Christian; a sister, Susan (husband, Don) Christian Bauknecht of Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jeff Mair officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with military graveside rites provided by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home. A Masonic service will take place at 7:30 p.m.
