Verah D. Glisson

Oct. 1, 1923 – Dec. 20, 2005

Verah D. (Kyser) Glisson, 82, of Shirley, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Regency Place in Greenfield.

She was born Oct. 1, 1923, in rural Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Everett, Sr., and Mary (Bash) Kyser.

Mrs. Glisson was a 1941 graduate of Westland High School. She served as president of the Shirley Grade School PTA and was a 50-year member of Shirley Eastern Star #492. Mrs. Glisson was also a member of Shirley Christian Church, Ingalls Church of God and Shirley War Mothers. A lover of hobbies and crafts, she retired from Estell’s Flower Shop in 1976.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen (husband, Gordon) Thomas of Shirley, and Melinda (husband, Dan) Tompkins of Anderson; a son, Jerry (wife, Marilyn) Glisson of Shirley; five grandchildren, Janette Cullison, Brian Tompkins, Kerry Glisson, Michelle Tompkins and Chip Glisson; three great-grandchildren, Jake Cullison, Amy Tompkins and Jackson Tompkins; a brother, Everett Kyser, Jr.; a sister, Mary Carolyn Galliher; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charless Glisson, in 2002; two great-grandsons, Bryce Cullison and Wyatt Tompkins; and a sister, Leah Wicker.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, at Condo & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemeter in Wilkinson. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, and included an Eastern Star service. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O.
