Ruth E. Heady

Jan. 14, 1912 – Dec. 31, 2005

Ruth E. Heady, 93, of Knightstown, died Saturday, Dec. 31, at Hancock Regional Hospital.

She was born Jan. 14, 1912, in Wheatcroft, Ky., a daughter of the late William E. and Lena Mae (Baird) Farmer.

Mrs. Heady completed 12 grades in a one-room school house in Kentucky and later attended Murray State University, also in Kentucky. A homemaker all her life, she enjoyed reading and had lived in the Carthage and Knightstown communities all her life.

Survivors include three sons, Jack D. (wife, Pat) Heady of Michigan, Clyde W. (wife, Bernice) Heady of Michigan, and James R. (wife, Mary) Heady of Knightstown; a step-sister, Jerri Kestner of Washington; a step-brother, Mickey Farmer; eight grandchildren, Daryl Heady, Cheryl (husband, Larry) Benson, Jack Heady, Steven Wayne Heady, and Mark (wife, Jill) Heady, all of Michigan; Steven James (wife, Shannon) Heady of Carthage, Scott (wife, Holly) Heady of Straughn, Angela (husband, Kenneth) Haskett of Knightstown; nine great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, including Charlene, Sharon and Michelle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Heady, in 1997; two sisters, Hazel Edwards and Dorothy Colo; and four brothers, William, Lacy, Richard and Jimmy Farmer.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Chris Sitler officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
