Paul Keith Mayes

June 14, 1938 – Jan. 2, 2006

Paul Keith Mayes, 67, of New Castle, died Monday, Jan. 2, at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness.

He was born June 14, 1938, in Anderson, a son of the late Lowell Lester and Wertha (Roamy) Mayes.

Mr. Mayes was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He was known by his CB handle, “Daddy HoHo.” He was also an avid Bingo player and enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting. Mr. Mayes loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Patricia (Zirkle) Mayes of New Castle; five daughters, Jeannie (husband, Phil) Hiatt of Elkhart, Paula McGuire of New Castle, Kimberly Mayes of Anderson, Hope Mayes of Anderson, and Kelly (husband, James) Lasswell, also of Anderson; a son, Timothy Mayes of Michigan City; two brothers, Donald (wife, Barb) Mayes of Brazil, and Lowell Lester Mayes, Jr., of Anderson; beloved pets, Butch and Sam; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Mayes, and a pet, Mutley.

Funeral services are at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle with Pastor Larry Bigham of Central Community Chapel of Anderson officiating. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by New Castle American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 1282. Memorial contributions may be made to Patricia Mayes with envelopes available at the funeral home.
