Melody Rose Lain Cully

Sept. 31, 1932 – Dec. 24, 2005

Melody Rose Lain Cully, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 24, at Heritage House Nursing Home in New Castle.

She was born in Shirley on Sept. 31, 1932, a daughter of the late Moses Lain and Maudeline Bolen Lain Ashby Lowe.

Mrs. Cully was a 1950 graduate of Kennard High School. She made her home in Columbus for many years, where she was a member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. After moving back to Shirley, she worked at Beverly’s Flower Shop and sold Stanley Home Products and Avon.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Tingle of Kentucky; five half-brothers, Rex, Steve and Gale Ashby, and Robert and Charles Lain; nine half-sisters, Martha Sears, Priscilla Knapp, Sue Davis, Margaret James, Wanda Miller, Marjorie Robertson, Marilyn Myers, Rosemary Scholar and Pauline Southerland; her step-mother, Dorothy Lain; and a special friend, Robin Eytchison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bob Broshears; and her second husband, Bob Cully.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Marshall and Erlewein Funeral Home, Estell Chapel, in Shirley with Pastor Gale Ashby officiating. Visitation preceded funeral services at the funeral home. Burial followed in Harlan Cemetery in Wilkinson.
