Marietta Pearson

May 7, 1924 – Dec. 29, 2005

Marietta (Gates) Pearson, 81, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, Dec. 29 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born May 7, 1924, in Westland, a daughter of the late Eligah and Neva (Duncan) Gates.

Mrs. Pearson owned and operated Marietta’s Café in Charlottesville. She also worked at Eastern Hancock schools as a custodian. She was a member of Charlottesville United Methodist Church, Women’s Society Club and Bunco Club.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas (wife, Janet) Pearson of Carbon, and Michael (wife, Joyce) Pearson of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Brian Pearson, Julie Pearson, Angela Sexton and Kim Blume; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Grose of Greenfield, and Virginia Hutcherson of Wabash; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Pearson in 1993; a son, Alex Pearson in 2005; a brother, Cleo Gates; and a sister, Mildred Gates Johnson.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Shirley Lukens officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Monday, Jan. 2, at the funeral home.
