Gathel McCorkle

Feb. 5, 1925 – Nov. 7, 2003

Gathel McCorkle, a resident of Carthage most of her life, died November 7. She was born February 5, 1925 in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas and Daisy (Logan) McClurg.

She was an industrious and talented person, an avid reader, self-taught singer, pianist, guitarist, did oil painting, needlework and wrote numerous poems and a genealogy book on the family.

She is survived by one son, Richard Lowell McCorkle of Knightstown; three granddaughters, one grandson, four great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; one brother, Dewey McClurg of Indianapolis; and one sister, Dorothy Richey of Knightstown.

Besides her parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 10 at Todd Funeral Home, Carthage.

CORRECTION made in the Dec. 10, 2003 issue: We apologize for omitting the following information in the obituary for Gathel McCorkle, printed in last week’s Banner. Gathel was married to Lowell McCorkle of Carthage and he preceded her in death in 1985. Also, Pastor Randy Sidwell officiated at the service held Monday, November 10.
