Robert Lee Wampler

Sept. 4, 1929 – Nov. 21, 2003

Former Knightstown resident, Robert Lee Wampler, 74, died Friday, November 21 at his Greenfield residence. He was born September 4, 1929 in Bloomington, a son of the late William Wayne and Alice Maria (Freeman) Wampler.

Mr. Wampler retired from Eastern Hancock Schools in 1991 after teaching for 34 years. He graduated from Bloomington High School and continued his education at Indiana University, receiving his Master’s Degree in teaching. He served as a member of the Independent Party on the Knightstown Town Board from 1983 to 1987. Wampler served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Ann Wampler whom he married September 12, 1950; three sons, Gary Brad Wampler of Knightstown, Kerry Wampler of Greenfield, and Jeffery Wampler of Bloomington; four daughters, Katherine Wampler of Greenfield, Lee Ann Dolezal of Laotto, Julia Martin of Andover, Mass., and Rhonda Hummer of Bloomington; one brother, Donald Richard Wampler of Columbus; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25 at First Assembly of God Church in New Castle with Steven Galloway officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memory Garden in Bloomington.

Visitation was held at the Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home in Greenfield Monday, November 24.
