Charles R. Sorrell

April 30, 1933 – Sept. 22, 2003

Charles R. “Charlie” Sorrell, 70, a resident of Shirley, died Monday, September 22 in Hancock Memorial Hospital. He was born April 30, 1933 in Shirley, a son of Arthur and Margaret (Clark) Sorrell.

Mr. Sorrell retired in 1990 from Allison Gas Turbine in Indianapolis. He has been a member of the Shirley Volunteer Fire Dept. since 1963 and had served as fire chief in the mid-1970’s. He attended the Shirley Friends Church. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. Charlie was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jenna L. (Darling) Sorrell of Shirley; one son, Tim Sorrell of Carthage; one daughter, Tonia Neal of Issaquah, Wash.; his mother, Margaret Sorrell; and five grandchildren.

His father, Arthur Sorrell, preceded him in death in 1969.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 26 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 25. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
