James McDaniel

April 12, 1925 – July 2, 2003

James “Don” McDaniel, 78, a resident of Wilkinson, died Wednesday, July 2 in Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born April 12, 1925 in Rush County, a son of the late James and Ruby (Fort) McDaniel.

Mr. McDaniel was a lifelong farmer and retired in 1988 from Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis.  He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He attended the Shirley-Wilkinson Community Methodist Church and was a member of the Shirley Masonic Lodge #531, Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #492 and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Lou McDaniel of Wilkinson; two daughters, Karen (husband Larry) Raymer of Brownstown, and Connie (husband Tom) Veach of Wilkinson; six grandchildren, Kori Johnson, Karmen Hartranft, Kyle Raymer, Kwin Raymer, Kevin Veach and Chris Veach; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Collins of Wilkinson; and one niece and one nephew.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 7 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, July 6 with a Masonic service at 5 p.m.

Memorial contribution may be made to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia Society.
