Richard E. Vaughn

Mar. 27, 1929 - June 26, 2003

Richard E. Vaughn, 74, a resident of Shirley, died Thursday, June 26 in Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle. He was born March 27, 1929 in Henry County, a son of the late Eugene Wesley and Viola Alice (Ratliff) Vaughn.

Mr. Vaughn served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1949. He retired in 1981 from Delco Remy in Anderson after 30 years of service. He is a member of the U.A.W. Local 662 and the Grant City Wesleyan Church. He was an avid fisherman, mushroom hunter, NASCAR fan and deer watcher.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris M. Vaughn; two sons, Richard Edward (wife Ava) Vaughn of Bowling Green, Ky. and Gary (wife Sheryl) Vaughn of Shirley; one daughter, Stella (husband Jim) Anderson of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Gilbert, June Colson, Duey Vaughn, Robert D. Vaughn, Brian A. Vaughn, Michael Anderson and Angel M. Anderson; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Charles William Vaughn of Anderson, Morris Edward Vaughn of Arkansas, Herschel Vaughn of Rhode Island and Thomas Earl Vaughn of Dunreith; and one sister, Rowena Ritchie of Dunreith.

A sister, Rosella Davis, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 30 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Trent Riley and Larry Basey officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, June 29. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
