James J. Miller

April 16, 1921 - June 15, 2003

James J. Miller, 82, of Boise, Idaho died Sunday, June 15. He was born April 16, 1921 in Madison County, a son of the late James W. and Mary E. (Ginn) Miller.

Mr. Miller graduated from Knightstown High School in 1939. He enlisted in the Coast Guard and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning from service, he met Lucinda Smith at the dairy where he worked as a deliveryman. They were married on November 23, 1944 in Cambridge City. In 1987, James and Lucinda moved to Boise to be near their daughter, Linda and her family. They attended both Broadway Avenue Baptist Church and Ustick Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Birch of Boise; granddaughter, Debbie (husband Mitch) Miller; grandson, David (wife Amy) Birch; great-grandson, Luke Miller; one sister, Marcia Barclay of Anderson; two brothers, Charles E. Miller of Anderson and Harry F. Miller of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucinda; three brothers, Herman, Richard and Joseph Miller; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Birch.

Memorials may be made in James' name to Veterans Affairs, mailed to VA Medical Center, Attention: Voluntary Service, 500 W. Fort St., Boise, Idaho 83701.
