Helen Riggs-Bailey

Jan. 22, 1915 - Apr. 16, 2003

Helen Kathleeen Riggs-Bailey, 88, a resident of New Castle, died Wednesday, April 16 at Rawlins House Healthcare in Pendleton. She was born January 22, 1915 in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Oral and Flora (Bowman) Caldwell.

Mrs. Riggs-Bailey had been employed at MOFAB of Anderson for 10 years. She had also been employed at L.S. Ayres as a clerk in retail, Shirley Dry Goods and was a clerk for Hancock County Circuit Court. She was a member of the Shirley United Methodist Church, Deercreek Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years and was a 5-star Worthy Matron and Daughter of Rebekka of Knightstown.

Surviving are her husband Marion Bailey of New Castle; one son, Ray "Butch" Riggs of Wilkinson; five daughters, Myla Sue Craig of Shirley, Saundra Riggs of New Jersey, Nancy Wisehart of Wilkinson, Gloria Ann (Polly) McCord of Kennard and Nyrene (Rene) Orhood of Greenfield; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Her first husband, Garnett A. Riggs, and second husband, Russell Souders, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 19 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with burial in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home Saturday, April 19 prior to the services.
