Berniece May Lee

Mar. 14, 1915 - Apr. 3, 2003

Berniece May Lee, 88, of Odon, and the mother of local resident, Will Lee, died Thursday, April 3 at Ketchem Memorial Center. She was born March 14, 1915 in Daviess County, a daughter of Walter Sherman and Fannie Hamilton Starling Shafer.

She was married to Parmer L. Lee who preceded her in death on March 11, 2001.

Mrs. Lee was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Jeanette DeVine of Odon, Shirley Wade of Washington, and Sharon Akles of Shoals; one son, William E. (wife Diana) Lee of Knightstown; two sisters, Pearl McClellan of Indianapolis and Leone Pearson of Bloomfield; 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy DeVine; three brothers, Vernon, Hershel and Carl Shafer; one sister, Norma Groover; and two grandsons, James Richard Hugunin and Mathew E. Lee.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 7 at the Odon Nazarene Church with Rev. Trevor Stanley officiating. Burial was in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday at the Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and prior to the services on Monday. Contributions may be made to the Mathew E. Lee Memorial 4-H Scholarship Fund.
