Herbert Alvin Stapp

Oct. 5, 1924 - Mar. 31, 2003

Herbert Alvin "Al" Stapp, 78, died Monday, March 31 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle. Mr. Stapp was born October 5, 1924 in Pulaski County, a son of Josephus and Gladys (Schmidt) Stapp.

Mr. Stapp married Emogene Apple Stapp on May 25, 1946. The 1943 graduate of Knightstown served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of V.F.W. #01541. Prior to his employment at Dana Corporation, he had been employed by Craven Dairy and Apple Construction. He attended East Street Christian Church in Carthage.

Survivors include his wife, Emogene Stapp of Carthage; one daughter, Jeanie Engle, Lewisville; two brothers, Charles (wife Marlene) Stapp of Smithville, Tenn., and Rev. Thomas (wife Reba) Stapp of Jasonville; one sister, Justine Southwood of Logansport; three grandsons, Randy Engle, Muncie, Tony (wife Teresa) Engle of Lewisville and Gary (wife Amy) Engle of Lewisville; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 4 at Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel, Carthage with Rev. David Bonne and Rev. Allen Polston officiating. Burial was in Center Cemetery near Mays. The Knightstown American Legion Post conducted graveside military rites.

Visitation was held Thursday, April 3 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
