Johnathan C. "Big John" Strong, 19, of Spiceland, died Monday, January 27 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born September 11, 1983 in Muncie, a son of John and Nancy (Hickman) Strong.

The 2003 graduate of Tri High School was a member of the National Honor Society for the New Castle Area Vocational Program, where he was in machine trades. He had played football four years and had lettered in track and baseball. A wrestler, he was a two-time county champion, super six champion heavyweight two times and had won the Tri High Invitational Championship. Johnathan had participated in FFA and was a member of ABD Truck Club of 2002. He was employed at De Bruhl Construction in Cadiz.

Survivors include his parents, John and Nancy Strong of Spiceland, a sister, Holly Strong of Spiceland; his fiancée, Nicole Palacios of New Castle; maternal grandmother, Ellen Hickman of Lewisville, aunts and uncles, John (wife Connie) Hickman of Spokane, Wash., Mike (wife Susie) Hickman of Healdsburg, Calif., Susan (husband Roger) Engle of Knightstown. Fred (wife Anne) Hickman of Rushville, Bruce (wife Margo) Hickman of Fortville, and Garry (wife Delores) Hickman of Rushville, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, John and Jerry E. Strong, Sr. and his maternal grandfather, Fredrick Hickman, Jr.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 31 at the South Memorial Drive Church of God in New Castle with Fred Hickman and John Hickman officiating. Burial was in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.

Visitation was held Thursday, January 30 at South Memorial Church of God.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnathan C. Strong Scholarship Fund through the South Henry Dollars for Scholars. Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangement.
