Paul E. Monger
Jan. 14, 1931 - Dec. 27, 2002
Paul E. Monger, 71, died Friday, December 27 at the Bainbridge Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge, Ga. A son of the late Thomas and Maude (Lamb) Monger, he was born in East Germantown on January 14, 1931.
Mr. Monger had resided in the Cambridge City, Dublin and Lewisville area the majority of his life until moving to Bainbridge, Ga. in 1991. He was a 1949 graduate of Lincoln High School in Cambridge City and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Monger was formerly a private owner/operator semi-truck driver for Portage Transfer Steel Company and Simms Steel of Middletown, Ohio. He operated the Dublin Texaco station and was the owner/operator of Monger's Service and Sales in Lewisville for over 20 years.
Monger was a member of the Faceville, Ga. Masonic Lodge F&AM #487, and prior to moving out of state, a member of the Lewisville Masonic Lodge F&AM #72. Also, he was a member of the Bainbridge VFW and American Legion, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Decatur Co. Farm Bureau, Faceville Community Club, past president of the Faceville United Methodist Charge Men's Club and an avid fisherman on Lake Seminole. He was a member of the Straughn United Methodist Church, attended the Faceville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Recovery United Methodist Sunday School.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, the former Janet Butler whom he married on April 9, 1951; one son, Robert D. (wife Deborah) Monger of Knightstown; three daughters, Paula (husband Bud) Clements of Bainbridge, Ga., Jama Monger Brown of Bainbridge, Ga. and Brenda Monger Parker of Columbus; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (husband Milford) Morgan of Gaston, and Jean Monger Jones of Knightstown; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ted Bradley Monger in 1970, his parents and a sister, Barbara Monger Hill.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 3 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel in Lewisville with Rev. Marion Hickman officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewisville Cemetery with military graveside services by American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 1282 of New Castle.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, January 2 with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m. by Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM of Lewisville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Recovery United Methodist Church, 319 Recovery Rd., Bainbridge, Ga. 39819.
