Mary June Kelly

June 6, 1917 - Dec. 17, 2002

Mary June Shafer Kelly, 85, of New Lisbon, died Tuesday, June 17 at her home. She was born June 6, 1917 in Rossville, a daughter of the late Floyd and Margaret Ann Lyons Shafer.

Mrs. Kelly was a retired bookkeeper and active in the Democratic Party. She had managed the Knightstown License Branch for many years. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to clubs in Henry and Rush Counties. She was a member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church, Knightstown BPW and Pythian Sister and volunteered at the Henry County Memorial Hospital. June was a graduate of Knightstown High School with the class of 1936. She was married to James N. Kelly on January 18, 1942 and he died in May of 1972.

Survivors include her daughter, Carole E. Pitman with whom she resided; two sons, James Michael (wife Bonnie) Kelly of Springport, and Wayne F. (wife Patricia) Kelly of Murrieta, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Chad Pitman of Bowling Green, Ky., Kimberly McCormick of New Castle, Victoria Jefferson of Pendleton, Anna Pugsley of Middletown, Scott Allan, Christopher and Timothy Kelly of the Los Angeles area in California, Connie Waterman of Shirley, Kathy, Donna and Michelle Kelly; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis (husband Joe) Cooney of Knightstown, and Suvanah Coffman of Millville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, John J. Shafer and a sister, Geneva Denton.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 21 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin with Rev. Jim Tilton officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation for family and friends was held Friday, December 20 and prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
