Jesse Riggs
June 6, 1910 - Dec. 28, 2002
Jesse Riggs, 92, of New Castle and formerly a longtime resident of Shirley, died Saturday, December 28 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle following an extended illness. He was born June 6, 1910 in Henry County, a son of the late Ora and Emma (Hendricks) Riggs.
Mr. Riggs retired from Chrysler in New Castle after 37 years of service and also worked over the years as a carpenter and farmer. He was a member of the Indiana Coon Hunters Association, the Treeing Walker and Breeders Fanciers Association, the Indiana Hunting Dog Association and a former member of the Markleville Masonic Lodge 629.
Survivors include his wife Reba (Craig) Riggs of New Castle; four sons, Jere (wife Ella May) Riggs of Knightstown, Randy (wife Jody) Riggs of Shirley, Ronnie Riggs of Shirley, and Mark (wife Christine) Riggs of New Castle; two stepsons, Don Herran of Detroit, Mich. and Jeff (wife Sharon) Herran of New Castle; one sister, Mable Hibbard of Shirley; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Lucille, five brothers, Cecil, Fay, Fred, Quincy, Don and a sister Ruby Iris Riggs at infancy.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 31 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Charles Riggs officiating. Burial was in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
