Ora Louis Clayton

May 15, 1915 – June 10, 2001

Former Carthage resident, Ora Louis Clayton, 86, died June 10 in the University of Louisville Hospital. He was a resident of Pewee Valley, KY. He was born May 15, 1915 in Shelby County, a son of the late Embert and Goldie Clayton.

Mr. Clayton lived most of his life in Indianapolis but formerly lived in Carthage for 10 years. He was a retired teacher and coach for Washington Township School system in Indianapolis, a WW II veteran and a member of Allisonville Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife Martha of Pewee Valley, KY; one son, Gary L. Clayton of Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Trina K. Gordon-Marquardt of Pewee Valley, KY; five brothers, Roy F. Steffey, Belle chase, LA; Max Steffey, Fort Meyers Beach, FL, Ray Steffey, North Port, FL, Russell and Emil L. Steffey, both of Shelbyville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be (today) Wednesday, June 13 at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Robert Riester. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
