Howard E. Newkirk
Dec. 21, 1917 – Feb. 22, 2001
Howard E. Newkirk, 83, of Dunreith, died Thursday, February 22 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield following a brief illness.
He was born Dec 21, 1917 in Rush County, a son of the late James and Alta (Stevens) Newkirk.
Mr. Newkirk retired after 25 years of service as a sales manager for Draper Inc. in Spiceland. He was a former employee of Kiger & Company in Dunreith and Ingersol in New Castle. He was also a self-employed carpenter. Newkirk served as a deacon, elder, treasurer and past president of the board of directors at Dunreith Christian Church. He was a former fire chief for the Dunreith VFD, former Dunreith town board president, member of the South Henry Regional Waste District, Spiceland F&AM #699, past patron Lewisville OES #436, and Knightstown York Rite. He was also a member of the National Road Preservation Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marshall (Annie) Noel of Noblesville; a grandson, Scott (wife, Karen) Noel of Noblesville; a great grandson, Andrew; a special friend, Mary Coffman of Spiceland, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Newkirk, a brother, Robert Newkirk, and a sister, Shelby Linville.
Serves were at 10 a.m. Monday, February 26 at Dunreith Christian Church with Kenton Smith officiating. Burial Followed in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Visitation was at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, February, 25.
