Norma Jean Brooks

May 1, 1923 – Jan. 19, 2001

Norma Jean Brooks, 77, of Knightstown died Friday, January 19 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, following a brief illness.

She was born May 1, 1923 in Shelby County, the daughter of the late James and Leona (Stephens) Hughbanks. She was a lifelong homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. James (Linda) Newkirk of Knightstown; four grandchildren, Robin Brooks of Indianapolis, Andrea Newkirk of Knightstown, Jennifer Brooks of Kennebunkport, Maine, Jimmy B. Newkirk (wife, Melanie) of Knightstown; one great granddaughter, Alexis Marsh; one daughter-in-law, Janis Brooks, of Kennebunkport, Maine; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank S. Brooks in 1984, a son, David L. Brooks in 1999, and one granddaughter, Allison P. Newkirk in 1981.

Services were Monday, January 22 at 10 a.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Chaplain Darrell Haines officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown, Visitation was Sunday, January 21 from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home Scholarship Fund.
