Doris P. Barton

July 18, 1920 – Jan. 6, 2001

Doris P. Barton, 80 a longtime Charlottesville resident, died Saturday, January 6 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield following a brief illness.

She was born July 18, 1920 in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Earl and Ida (Wilson) Poer.

She retired from Indiana Knitware in Greenfield She was a member of the Shirley Chapter No. 492 Order of the Eastern Star, Double 13 Club, and Thursday Circle. She was a member of the Charlottesville Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing and attending sporting events.

Survivors include two sons, Steve of Greenfield and Tom of Knightstown; one daughter, Carol Taylor of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1988, two sisters, Katherine Heartsock and Frances Aliene Shepherd, and one brother, Kenneth Wilson Poer.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 9 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Reverend Christina Marshall and Pastor Fred Powers officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Monday, January 8 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association of the American Cancer Society.
